1.2 (duncan finds out macbeth slayed) - Aneurysm by Nirvana (found this one on this macbeth playlist a while back and it has remained a macbeth song to me forever and ever; the manic energy fits the battlefield fervor here)

4.2 (macduff’s family is murdered) - Pretty Little Things by the Crane Wives (songs about pretty/fragile things being destroyed because of men’s betrayal… thinking about how lady macduff blames her husband for abandoning her to the wolves :( )
4.3 (malcolm and macduff) - All or Nothing by the Dream Masons (songs that are about both malcolm and macduff. the first verse especially is very malcolm, as a young prince stranded among enemies; the chorus is especially macduff-deciding-to-kill-macbeth-or-die-trying)
act five
5.1 (lady macbeth sleepwalks) - Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song) by Fiona Apple (LADY MACBETH GUILT SONG! “those boon times went bust // my feet of clay, they dried to dust // the red isn’t the red we painted, it’s just rust” w her imaginary bloodstains, + “i’m either so sick in the head i need to be bled dry to quit // or i just really used to love him // i sure hope that’s it”)
5.2 (the scots and english gather) - Marked Man by Mieka Pauley (songs i considered for 4.3 as well. they are coming to Get His Ass)
5.3 (macbeth preparing to fight) - For the Departed by Shayfer James (songs about knowing you’re about to get got but what does it matter when you’re already damned)
5.4 (the fucking wood is moving guys) - Kingdom Fall by Claire Wyndham (songs i almost put on the prior scene, for “i’d rather watch my kingdom fall // i want it all or not at all,” but eventually i placed it here because… well, we are watching the kingdom fall, my guy)
5.5 (tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow) - Drowning in the Sound by Amanda Palmer (okay, this is kind of because of “sound and fury,” but also it’s soooo macbeth act 5. “and the body is a temple but the temple is a prison and the prison’s overcrowded and the inmates know it’s flooded and the body politic is getting sicker by the second” + “do you ever feel like this should be officially the end? // and that you should be the one to do the ending, but you can’t?” + the inevitability…)
5.6 (scots + english arrive) - Lion’s Teeth by the Mountain Goats (song about trying to kill a powerful and tyrannical figure. also sounds like a fight scene)
5.7 (macduff and macbeth come face to face) - Bury Me Face Down by grandson (so obsessed with how firmly this guy would rather go down fighting than do literally anything easier)
5.8 (macbeth’s head presented, malcolm crowned) - King of the World by WAR*HALL (a new king is crowned after one dies by violence. fleance is still out there somewhere. the cycle of violence continues. this one doesn’t work unless you imagine the witches watching pityingly/sinisterly in the background)

Heartbeat
My first Vanessamanda fic! Dedicated to @burgershopsammi @tired-bunni @vannysgirl @mallickscottkisser
I’m so excited for this. I know I only posted the preview today, but I really wanted to put it out because it was finished but I thought that the editing would take a little while but I ended up finishing that . There’s mentions of child abuse, and heavy implications of Ness and Mandy hooking up. 
Vanessa was used to cleaning up her father’s messes, and she thought she would escape that when she left Utah for New Jersey two years ago, but in a sad unfortunate twist of fate; she became an apprentice to America’s most wanted serial killer.
Cleaning up another old man’s blood stained messes.
But at least she met her wife by doing that. It was January 2006, The two of them had just gotten married illegally last month; despite knowing each other for only 18 months.
Same sex marriage wasn’t legal and Vanessa knew that it was unfair that she had to go the illegal route to get married. She was supposed to be upholding the law, not breaking it. But on the other hand, she didn’t give a fuck. She loved Amanda.
She mindlessly played with the ring on her finger until she was snapped out of her thoughts by a nuzzle against her cheek. “Hey, bunny. You okay back here?”
“I’m fine, Mandy. It’s just the game John has planned for April has me fucked up. Does he seriously want to kidnap a doctor and have them perform surgery on his fucking brain?!”
“John knows what he’s doing. It sounds mundane, but please don’t question him like that, okay?” Amanda’s slightly bitter tone sent sparks of electricity through Vanessa. If this was a bedroom situation, and Amanda was speaking to her like that, she would fold like a lawn chair. But since this was a disturbing situation, she was disgusted. She knew if she was anybody else, Amanda would be flipping her lid and screaming at her.
Amanda had a very weird relationship with John, and not in a good way. As a police officer, Vanessa has seen this case countless times. Amanda was a victim of grooming, John being the perpetrator.
Vanessa knew her wife was a victim of childhood abuse, and she recognized that John took advantage of that, especially at her lowest.
John had punished and tortured Amanda because she was a drug addict, claiming that this could fix her.
What John fails to realize though is abused children become abused adults, some of them having severely broken minds.
Watching John willingly take advantage of her wife, made her want to kill him, but she couldn’t. By killing John, Vanessa would be risking everything she had with Amanda.
Amanda pulled her in for a hug. “ I know you worry about me, but I promise I’m fine,” Amanda began, peppering kisses along Vanessa’s collarbone. “You need to relax.”
“ I cannot relax and you know that.”
“Why? Is that fucking weirdo security guard still looking for you?!”
“His name is Mike and I don’t know. He’s not weird, he knows I’m a lesbian and has not asked me out on any dates since I told him I was before I left Utah.”
Vanessa could see partial jealousy in Amanda‘s eyes. It was the protective type and she understood why her wife Felt the way she did.
“ I don’t trust any men besides John around you, not only because of my past, but because of yours. I had an abusive father, and so did you. But yours also killed a bunch of children and made you clean up the mess at the age of 12.”
Vanessa’s green eyes looked into Amanda’s “Babe, I don’t need a play-by-play of my childhood thank you. And I was nine.”
But the fact that she didn’t trust any men besides John made Vanessa sick inside. John was tearing Amanda apart, and since that evil old bastard had her right where she wanted him, she couldn’t even see it.
“You wanna go out? We could go to Wendy’s. We haven’t had a date night in a while.” Amanda’s offer cut through Vanessa’s thoughts like a butter knife. “Yeah. Why not?”

Vanessa, being nearly as tall as Mark Hoffman, threatened the hell out of him to take care of John and that’s how they were able to go out for the night. The two of them sat at a table, drowned out by chatter. two toddler aged siblings were play fighting on the floor near the couple, laughing.
“You still want kids with me one day?” Amanda asked, making a small gesture to the children.
“ Neither of us are mentally sound enough to take care of another human being, let alone multiple. Besides, we have a dog named Sparky, and I think she counts as our child.”
“VANESSA?!”
Vanessa knew that voice. Her body went rigid, her finger trembling against the table as she gripped it. She never wanted Mike to find her for her own sake, and yet he did. Amanda got up and stalked towards Mike. “What fucking business do you have asking for my girlfriend?” Amanda snapped. She wanted to say wife so badly, but she could not risk going back to jail.
“I’m sorry, who are you?” Mike asked, clearly bewildered.
“I’m sorry, Let me be more fucking formal this time. I’m Amanda, Vanny’s girlfriend, and you had no business coming in here to bother her.”
“It's a public restaurant. Besides, she’s a friend of mine.”
“ I don’t give a shit if it’s a public restaurant, ‘Mike’. “
All eyes were on Amanda now. Her relationship with Vanessa was nobody’s business, and this asshole from Utah was getting on her nerves.
Vanessa still sat at that table, just wanting to go back to their apartment.
“Ness?”
Vanessa’s head snapped up. There stood Abby, now sixteen. She hasn’t seen her since she left. “Hi, Abby. How are you?” Those were the only words she could get out, her brain still completely wracked.
“I’m okay, I guess. Was I the reason you left?”
Vanessa finally turned. “No, no, no. It wasn’t you. It was-“
“ It was Mike, wasn’t it?” Abby cut her off before she could tell her why, The teenager stormed off and started yelling at her brother. Amanda walked back, wrapping an arm around Vanessa. “Babe, we’re going home.” Amanda sounded almost aggressive and it didn’t help that Vanessa was trying to hold back tears.
It wasn’t Mike.
It wasn’t Abby.
It was her dead father, and that fucking restaurant of his.
She wanted to get away from it all. But now that the entire country knew who her father was, would she be able to? She legally changed her last name from Afton to a last name she picked out herself, Shelly, when she was 18 in 1993. It was the only way she could try to distance herself from him as much as she could, but even as a police officer, he was still controlling everything she did, and making sure she cleaned up every single victim he had.
And now, she was stuck doing it again.
She had her missing piece with her, but it was still a cycle of repetitive abuse. The two of them were nothing but puppets, the puppet master now in a stolen hospital bed in a crude replication of a hospital room.
Amanda helped Vanessa in the back of her car, seeing the stress in her eyes.
When they got back to the meat packing plant, Amanda quickly got her girlfriend inside and immediately to their shared mattress that lay on top of two floor shelving units. Sparky, their rescued German shepherd mix curled beside Vanessa in an attempt at comfort. Amanda kissed Vanessa’s lips before nuzzling her face and putting a blanket over her.
“Sleep well, Vanny. I love you,” Amanda breathed as she crawled into bed beside her. “Always.”
Sparky moved in between her human moms, wriggling until she flopped on her back.

Vanessa jolted awake in a sweat, sobbing. Amanda stirred. “Bunny?” She mumbled, voice thick with sleep. “What’s wrong, baby?”
“My dreams. I’m brought back to June 23rd,1985. I’m still nine, and I’m in the arcade of Freddy’s. My dad, William, calls for me. Mama was at work, so I often stayed at Freddy’s until dad left. I assumed he called my name because we were going home, but no. I stood in the doorway of the back room and I saw-“
Vanessa shook as she began to hyperventilate. Amanda pulled her in, whispering in her ear. “Ground yourself, Nessie. He’s not here, he cannot hurt you anymore. If he even tries to find you, I’ll kill him myself. Okay?”
Vanessa gripped Amanda. Once she calmed down, she murmured, “I’ll kill yours, too. I know what he did to you, Mandy. I read his file at the station, and the amount of visceral rage he gives me is so fucking palpable.”
Amanda didn’t even flinch. She just leaned in, and kissed her cheek. “Little miss law breaker… I should put you in cuffs for that, you know.” Amanda winked, a light joke in the heat of the moment.
“Wouldn’t be the first time you stole my cuffs only to use them on me. Remember New Year’s Day 2005?”
“Of course I remember last year. We almost got caught by Hoffman. Absolutely disgusting.” Amanda grimaced, Vanessa laughing.
“Not my fault!”
“Yes, it was, blondie. You’re loud.”
“You’re an asshole.”
“But you love me.”
“Do I?” Vanessa joked, Amanda smothering her in kisses. “Yeah, you do.”
Vanessa kissed her back. “Of course I do.”
The two leaned back when Sparky wanted love. The pup was essentially their child, completing their family in a way.
But there was always the gnawing feeling of wanting more.
But in their line of ‘work’, it was impossible. Vanessa and Amanda wouldn’t dare bring a child into their world of blood and pain.
The two lay on that dingy mattress, dreaming of a life that could’ve been theirs. No games, no John Kramer, no blood to scrub off of walls. Just them, Sparky, a home, and maybe a child or two.
But dreams are just that. Dreams.

9. worst part of canon um the way that Nancy only appeared properly in the second season. Nancy was that bitch in her huge orange plastic sunglasses chain-smoking watching dead eyed as her husband obliviously drank a beer. there was so much there. she's younger than bill and clearly not as naive as he thinks she is but she's also not a Betty draper she's way more self aware. it's soooooo fucking annoying that her drama was about her kid being a serial killer which is so obvious and lazy when it should've been built off of her crying on Debbie's shoulder 2 hours into meeting her wine drunk bc bill is so unreachable and she feels like she can't give him anything. like GIRLLLL what happened to that. their marriage couldve dissolved in such an ugly and interesting and nuanced way I can't believe they did her like that I love divorce and it could've carried a flagging season . also the Manson needle drop was so ill done

In the bustling city of Seoul, there was a group of five talented musicians known as Red Velvet. They had just finished a concert and were leaving the venue when they ran into a young man named Minho.
Minho was handsome and charming, and he immediately caught the eye of Yeri, the youngest member of Red Velvet. They exchanged a brief conversation before parting ways, but Yeri couldn‘t help but think of him.
Days later, Yeri and the rest of Red Velvet were at a music competition, and to her surprise, she saw Minho there as well. They spoke briefly and went their separate ways, but Yeri couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something special between them.
As the competition progressed, Yeri and Minho kept running into each other, and it became clear to them both that they were falling in love. But there was a problem: Minho was already engaged to his childhood friend, Jiyeon.
Jiyeon was beautiful and kind, and Minho had promised to marry her since they were children. But as he spent more time with Yeri, he couldn‘t help but feel torn between his duty to Jiyeon and his newfound love for Yeri.
Meanwhile, Yeri was dealing with her own issues. She was afraid to confess her feelings to Minho, knowing that it could cause a scandal and ruin their careers. But she couldn’t deny the growing love she felt for him.
As the competition drew to a close, Yeri and Minho found themselves alone on a rooftop, staring out at the city skyline.

But things took a sinister turn when Wendy discovered that Seulgi was actually a serial killer, and that the reason she was so mysterious was because she was constantly on the run from the law. Wendy was torn between her love for Seulgi and her fear of what she was capable of.
The tension between them reached its breaking point one night, when Seulgi revealed that she was planning to leave town and start a new life, but she wanted Wendy to come with her. Wendy was torn, but ultimately she knew that she couldn‘t go with Seulgi. She knew that if she did, she would be dragged down into a life of darkness and violence.
As Seulgi left town, Wendy watched her go, heartbroken but relieved. She knew that it was for the best, but she couldn’t help wondering what might have been if things had been different.
Years later, Wendy was still haunted by her memories of Seulgi. She couldn‘t help but wonder what had become of her, and whether she was still out there, somewhere, living a life of darkness and danger. He started with guest speaking, moving to special seminars a few times a year. But he wanted something more, settling for a 7-week criminal justice elective of his choosing.
Intro to Criminal Minds: why they did it. Giving Spencer an excuse to share the most intimate facts about serial offenders in a setting where no one could tell him to shut up.
14 students total signed up for the two-hour Seminar, taking place every Thursday at 11 am from September until Halloween. Over the 7 weeks, he would explain the fascinating insights of the most successful killers in the United States. Only asking that his students write about a prolific crime they find interesting by the end of term, for their full grade.
All he wanted was to read about obscure killers from around the world, from the perspective of aspiring profilers.
The first Thursday, he came prepared with his coffee a half hour before the class. He wanted to write the main points on the whiteboard in advance, nice and neatly.
To his surprise, a student was already there waiting for him. "Oh, hello,” he smiled softly.
She was sitting with a book in her hands, she pushed her glasses up her nose to look at him as he walked in. She was older than his typical student, around 35. Probably finishing up a degree or adding something to what she already had.
"Hi," she smiled at him. “Sorry, I’m early, I was visiting my mom at Quantico earlier.” She explained. "I'm not a teacher's pet or anything. Promise, I’m not even a student.”
It made him laugh slightly, correcting him like she read his mind. "It's okay, I'm Doctor Reid," he introduced himself softly.
“Margaret Carr, Peggy is also fine.”
"Pleasure to meet you," he said quickly before focusing his attention on the whiteboard.
He could feel her eyes on him the whole time he wrote, not wanting to turn around and catch her. "That's so interesting," he heard her mumble under her breath.
"Hmm?" He turned around.
"It's just that, everyday occurrences that never phase the regular person somehow cause psychopaths to kill," she read the board back to him.
"I was reading a study a while back about how psycho killers medulla oblongata is approximately 19% smaller than the average human’s. Based on the way they're nurtured as children affects if they grow up to kill. The ones that don't often end up in law enforcement and other positions of power where their psychopathic tendencies can come to play."
He was taken aback for a moment. He had never experienced a student who was like him before. Someone who just pulled facts into conversations like it was nothing.
"I read that as well," he smiled. "It is fascinating. The smallest amount of bullying and abuse from a mother or disappearance of a father figure can set them off."
"Or, on the other hand, there are people like Ted Bundy," she added. "He was well-loved and taken care of, but it went to his head. His god complex and affinity for lying led him to be incredibly charismatic and enabled his killing."
"You're very educated on this already; are you just interested in hearing me speak today?" He asked, not wanting her to leave, finding it interesting that she was there.
"Oh," she blushed. "I was going to talk to you more about it after the seminar actually."
“Okay, I’ll be waiting for you,” he felt a little giddy at the prospect.
"Thanks," she laughed. "Seriously though, I'm a big fan of your teaching style, I saw a few of your classes when my dad was teaching at the academy in 2005. It's a lot easier to remember facts if the lecturer genuinely loves what they're talking about."
"You're going to like this Seminar then. It’s basically just a way for me to get paid while unloading all the random facts I have,” he warned her with a smile.
"I know." She smiled back at him.
The rest of his students filed in slowly. By 11 am, 14 faces were staring back at him.
"Hello," he waved awkwardly. "I'm dr. Spencer Reid. For the last 12 years, I've worked with the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit. Catching serial offenders across the country."
He took a deep breath, letting the nerves find their way out of him. "I've been asked time and time again who my favourite serial killer is, which is a peculiar way to phrase the question. It feels morally wrong to have a favourite in the way people do with baseball players.
"I am, however, fascinated with several serial offenders' reasoning and explanation for why they did what they did. Every single killer is different, but it all comes back to 1 thing. Do you know what that is?"
They all shook their heads. “What is your relationship with your parents like?" He asked. 
Everyone in the room reacted; some students sighed, some rolled their eyes as they recalled their parents and childhoods to memory.
"When a person decides to kill, it's often never in the moment. It's in childhood. The majority of serial offender's stories start the same; their mother didn't love them, their father left. Someone at home abused them or put them down repeatedly."
"Thus, causing a hatred so primal to bubble. No matter how hard they try and fight it, the bubble always bursts. They go from fantasizing to killing in retaliation for their abuse, taking the anger out in stages."
He referred to the board. "Every killer has a stressor and a trigger—something that causes the urge to bubble and the event that causes the bubble to rupture.”
"Edmund Kemper is a fascinating example of this. He grew up with a family for the first few years of his life before his father fully abandoned them. His mother handled the situation by turning her anger onto her son; it was his fault his father left, he looked just like him, Ed was just another useless man who would never amount to anything," he emphasized the words. Hoping the class sees the effects words have on children.
"He started by cutting up dolls, stealing his sister's barbies and cutting their heads off. In his mind, he was getting out his anger and hatred for how his mother saw him. She hated men, causing him to mature with a warped idea of what women are truly like."
"His attraction to killing worsened his mother's hatred; she could tell something was wrong with him, that he didn't react to everyday situations the way he should. By the time he was ten, she was locking him in the basement for days on end, telling him he was a monster and her biggest regret."
"The change in her rage amplified his own. He hated hearing her speak. He hated the way she walked around, thinking she was better than him. That just because she was a mother and a working woman, she deserved respect and submissive’s. All he could see was a woman with a big head who needed to be humbled. This is the moment when the psychotic side of his brain blended his hatred of his mother with how good it felt to kill."
"Is that why he, you know?" Peggy cut in, running her finger along her neck as she pretended to cut her head off.
He pressed his lips together in an awkward smile, nodding. "His signature, as it's called, was decapitation. But more specifically necrophiling the severed head of his victims."
The whole class let out a disgusted noise, Peggy and Spencer making eye contact while they shrugged, it wasn't news to them.
"At age ten, he moved from barbies to cats and dogs, never leaving them around for his mother to see. While he hated her, he was also absolutely terrified of her. Breading a special type of killer. When you think of school shooters or preferential predators, what do they have in common?" He asked.
He pointed at a student in the back. "They have a specific type of victim they’re after?"
"Exactly. Most serial offenders want to go after the cause of their pain or attraction. However, Ed wasn't able to kill the source of his rage for a long time. His mother mentally abused him so intensely that he believed she was in control of him and that her opinion of him mattered. He saw her as his God, he loved her, but he also knew that he disappointed her.
"He ran away soon after to find his father. Travelling to California, only to be told he was unwanted there as well. It wasn't just his mother that his father was escaping; it was the fundamental aspect of family that he didn't want. Ed defiantly didn't want to go back to his mother after that, so he moved in with his paternal grandparents."
He kept catching the looks on Peggy's face. She knew the story already, waiting patiently to hear the words he chose to make the horrific acts seem a little more conversational.
"His grandmother was exactly like his mother. If I had to guess, his father most likely had a distaste for his own mother and thus divorced Ed's mom. Only he never grew up to be a killer, just an absent father—his absence doing to Ed what never happened to him."
"Ed killed his grandparents when he was 15. Telling the police and his therapists that they had beaten him constantly, they refused to feed him and called him names. He said he snapped from the trauma; it was self-defence."
Peggy laughed to herself, making him smile softly. "Sending him to a mental hospital instead of a juvenile facility was the worst thing they could've done for him," Spencer added.
"Why?" A student asked.
"Ed is a psychopath." He reminded them. "He doesn't feel empathy the way we do. You can admit that you feel bad for him, yes? If you understand why he killed people, it doesn't make you sick, like him, it makes you human. You see a hurt person hurting others; Ed Kemper sees himself as a new sort of God, choosing who dies, how and when."
"He was brilliant, having the exact IQ as I do," just a humblebrag, "the staff trusted him. He looked like an innocent boy, smart enough to take matters into his own hands for the betterment of his life. They gave him computer privileges, they let him work the front desk and file patient information. Giving him all the resources to learn about who he was inside and how to get away with it perfectly."
"Damn," another kid added. "When did he get out?"
"At 21.” He answered the student quickly. “Ed was interviewed by my mentor Jason Gideon, in the 70s. Where he explained that being locked up during his sexual prime, as well as the access to information, is what truly set him off more than his mother.
"He moved back in with her and his sister when he came out of the institution, immediately returning to the constant ridicule. He went from being told all the time that he was a smart and charming young man, capable of rehabilitation to a useless, no-good son, who would have been better off collecting in a condom or running down her leg."
The whole class laughed, shocked at his repetition of Ed's mother's words.
"He got his licence when he was released. And remember, this was prime time for hitchhiking in California; everyone and their mother walked the roads with a thumb in the air. It was the birth of free love and recreational marijuana usage. It was also the best hunting ground for a learning serial killer."
"He was able to pick women up, but like I said, missing his sexual prime while in an institution made him almost impotent. He didn't know how to speak to women; he had to create a fantasy in his mind every time, one that involved killing, before he could look at a woman."
"How did he get them in his car then?" A voice asked from the back.
"He was 6'9, 300lbs; he looked like a big teddy bear. And his mother was the local college administrative assistant, so the whole town knew him anyway. If Ed offered to give them a ride, it wouldn't be that bad, right?" Peggy turned around to face the class as she explained for Spencer, who just shook his head.
"He only wanted to rape the victims, originally," Spencer added. "But he couldn't. There was no release of the tension. The bubble that had been growing inside him was at its breaking point; he needed to just do it. Get it over with and move on."
"He killed 6 women in succession after that. Gaining the name "The Co-Ed Killer," well before anyone even suspected Ed Kemper," Spencer took a sip of coffee, feeling his throat start to dry as they reached the insane part.
"He was overly friendly with the cops; he wanted to get his record expunged and join the force.” Spencer finally continued. “Being told, "don't worry about your record, worry about your weight.""
"Most killers enjoy wearing a uniform for the power and talking to the police about their cases, in the hopes of gauging how smart they really are—taking pride in the fact that they are getting away with it for so long."
"He watched all the cop shows, and he read all the books. He knew that in order to get away with it, he had to do it where no one could trace it back to him. He knew he had to keep his cool and avoid looking obsessed with the case, but just curious enough to gain insight into how they thought he was doing it. It went on for years, and they had absolutely zero leads, finding headless bodies every few months before they finally received a call." He left them hanging, walking over to his sheet of paper and pretending to read it while they anticipated the catch.
"Ed always knew that he wanted to kill his mother. He just never knew when,” Spencer teased the story along. Noticing as the students fidgeted in their seats as they wondered what happened next.
“In his interview with Gideon, Ed said that he knew she would die 7 days before he killed her. He walked into her room that night to find her reading, with the audacity to ask if he wanted to come in and chat all night. Teasing him for the way he rambled to her. It was the last time she ever did that."
"It's hard to imagine his signature with the fact his second last victim was his mother," Peggy added, cringing at the thought.
"Wait," another student interjected. "Who was his last kill then if he only really wanted to kill her?"
"Remember how I said he lacked empathy?" Spencer asked. "He loved his mother in the same way a prisoner can end up loving their captor."
Peggy nods at the comparison, looking like she's never thought of it that way before, then smiling at him.
"You grow a bond through the trauma and when the only thing you've ever known is violence and hate, you don't know what to do when that's gone, it's hard to cope."
"He said he killed his mother so that she never had to know what he did. She'd never have to sit at his court hearings or be able to tell the media that she always knew he was a killer."
"His last kill was his mother's best friend," He finally answered the question.
"He didn't want his mother to be even more disappointed in him, but he also didn't want his mother's best friend to find her like that and be upset. So the obvious answer to him was to kill her too."
"What the fuck?" He heard a couple of kids say under their breath.
"Yeah," he agreed with an almost chuckle. "This is what I mean by their answers are fascinating. It makes so much sense to them; clearly, if I kill my mother, her friend will be upset, so the best answer would be to put her out of her misery as well. He sees them as objects, like a matching set. One would lose value without the other."
Everyone was silent then. The students took in all the information they had just received, staring up at him with a look of disgust mixed with wonder.
"Any questions?"
Peggy raised her hand for a change; he pointed towards her in approval. "You missed the part where he specifically took the heads from the three women before his mother and brought them back home with him. He buried them in the yard outside her bedroom window, making sure they were always looking up to her."
Spencer was amazed that she knew the details. "Yes, I guess I did."
"I always found that part particularly interesting in this case," Peggy added. "Her opinion mattered so much to him. He knew how much she loved her co-ed's and how they looked up to her so much. They'd be exactly like her. He felt trapped in a town of women who were exactly like his nightmare, and his response was to make them physically look up to her for the rest of her life."
"Exactly." Spencer smiled. "understanding how he sees the situation and how the events played out in his mind is the key in figuring out who he is."
"If you were on the case in '72 when the first victims were discovered, how would you have handled it, Dr. Reid?" A male student in the back asked in the silence between answers, taking his shot before Peggy and Spencer went any further in their discussion.
“That's a hard thing to answer, connecting evidence back then was a lot harder than it is today, if it wasn’t for men like Ed there wouldn’t really be this many answers,” Spencer said honestly.
Another student put her hand up, “what’s the worst thing he did in your opinion?”
That racked his brain, there was a handful of horrific things he did that were particularly horrific, “probably his mother's entire murder.”
“What did he do?”
Before Spencer could answer he saw Peggy open her mouth and start explaining. “He not only cut off her head and fucked her neck, but he also took her vocal cords out and shoved them down the garbage disposal. And before he called the cops, he cleaned everything up and made her look presentable because he said his mother wouldn’t want guests to see the mess.”
The class all cringed, sinking into their seats with disgust. But that didn’t stop Peggy from explaining it all further.
“He used to go to a bar all the cops went to and he would talk about his case. They would always one-up themselves and say they were close which gave him this false idea that they were on his tail and they’d find his mother soon. But when they didn’t, he called it in from a payphone and said he’d come over and explain it all. And boy did he ever, the cops said he wouldn’t shut up. And then when they put him in the cop car finally, a woman walked past him and he threw up.”
Spencer watched her with awe, the way she could call information to memory like that was beautiful. He listened to her like he’s never heard a fact before, she was so intriguing.
“Thank you for the detail,” he teased her lightly. “Sometimes I get so caught up that the really gross parts get swept aside.”
The class smiled at him, he had gained their trust and attention within only 1 hour of class.
“I know you said you don’t have a favourite,” another student asked from the back. “I agree it’s weird, but who is the one you gravitate towards the most?”
“I’ve met hundreds of serial killers, I’ve read about thousands,” he explained. “I think Ed Kemper is the one I gravitate the most around because he was so willing and open to explaining why he is the way he is. Going as far as to say that the only way they could keep women safe is to give him a lobotomy. He didn’t believe there was any correcting to be done, only removal of the evil within him.”
He heard slight mumbles as everyone took in what he said. “Does anyone here have a killer or a case that interested them in learning more, or just introduced you to the chase of justice?”
Peggy put her hand up, “I personally think BTK is the scariest, most tactical, and just downright evil man to ever exist. He scares me to no end but he’s so interesting to learn about.”
“Ahh,” Spencer agreed. “Too bad you won't be here for week 3. But with that I think I’ll end the class, next week we’ll be discussing the difference between Ted Bundy and Richard Speck.” He nodded lightly, watching the majority of them close their books and had on out.
“I really enjoyed the class,” she said softly. Holding her purse in one hand, a collection of files in the other.
Spencer turned to look at her then, smiling right back. “It was a pleasure to teach alongside you.”
“What do you mean?” She teased, “it’s not like my mom and dad were the ones who did all the interviews."
“Carr,” he repeats her last name. The gears turning in his mind as he brings all the information forth.
“Your mother is Wendy Carr, she was recruited after the BTK case with Bill Tench, she’s who was behind that study you mentioned.”
“I know,” she smiled.
“Who’s your father?”
“Guess,” she looked at him with an unimpressed look on her face, pushing her glasses up slightly.
“You’re kidding? Gideon never said he had a daughter let alone a,” he stops himself before he can embarrass himself any further.
She smiled at the implication of his words, “but he’s told me all about you Dr. Reid, that’s why I'm here.”
“You need help with a case and I’m the only agent in Virginia currently,” he pressed his lips together awkwardly. Knowing it was too good to be true that she would have any interest in him in the slightest.
“No actually, I have a case I’ve been working on privately and I need some help. I asked my dad but he said you’d be able to help me the best. I agree,” she corrected him softly. “I wasn’t kidding when I said I was a big fan of yours. When I would sit in and watch his lectures, before he knew I was his kid, you would always step in at the best parts, adding the smallest details to the story that the average person would forget. It’s magnificent.”
He laughed slightly, tugging at his collar as she complimented him. “Thank you, you’re quite magnificent as well,” he replied with a blush and a smile
She didn’t look like Gideon, probably because she smiled so much. Like sunshine on legs, she beamed, all but blinding him with her smile as she stared at him, “do you want to get lunch and go over this case with me?”
“I’d love to.”

Mindhunter (2017)
Mindhunter is one of the best shows Netflix has ever put out. What sets it apart is its focus on human psychology, both criminal and civilian. Our FBI agent protagonists Bill and Holden try to scour the minds of serial killers through in depth interviews to better understand what made them kill. What led a human being into becoming what society deems a monster? The show and these interviews within it make you see the grey where society sees the black and white. These men (because they are mostly men) grew up usually with terrible upbringings that warped their world views and sent them onto dark paths. Not to say some wouldn't have become killers without the bad upbringings, because I believe sometimes its just somebody's wiring that sets them up for failure. The old 'nature vs. nurture' debate and which has more power inside of us. The phrase should be 'nature and nurture', because science says that we are all shaped by both. Mindhunter details that it's probably a bit of both too. The premise of the show is summed up best by sasisami on IMDB "Two FBI agents, fighting the departmental stigma of backroom boys - those who try to complicate the status quo of simple Means, Motive, Opportunity (MMO) of crime-solving with academics - work to develop an innovative investigative field incorporating psychology, anthropology and sociology as a method to reveal the motive. They acknowledge classic crime-solving - MMO - as no longer sufficient because criminality is becoming more complicated as Motive graduates from need and greed to inexplicable and irrational reasons. They theorize applying deeper psychological evaluation will posit new questions. Simply, asking Why will lead to the Who. This series focuses on the development by two men, two agents, of a new criminal field and does so through story lines of visiting the sociopathic mind." Agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench team up with psychologist Dr. Wendy Carr to start this Behavioral Science Unit. I love the way they portray the inception of the unit. All three are willing to take this huge career risk because of genuine curiosity and a belief that this new work can benefit society. Sure some are skeptical, mostly Bill Tench, but that doesn't dissuade them from doing the work. A lesser show would have more trivial storylines where the characters waste time fighting the objective or fighting each other, but the show focus's more on genuine dramas within the characters; like how their taxing work messes with their minds. Holden has panic attacks, Tench lets his family life suffer, and Carr well, she's relatively unfazed... for now. I predict she will have more to deal with when Season 3 eventually gets dropped (heres hoping).
Whats more, the show doesn't overly demonize these serial killers. There's no over-sensationalizing. It's because we get to see what shaped them; abusive families, absent parents, failure of support systems. You can't help but sympathize just a little. That's not every case though. Some of them are just as interesting because you see how inhuman a human can be. And partly why Mindhunter gives off such strong feelings is due to the amazing performances throughout.
The attention to detail in all aspects of making the show is what takes it from good to excellent. The casting is perfect whether it be for the main characters or the killers themselves. The slow striking score really sets the mood every time. An original score for a show always tends to give it that much more identity. Lighting, costume & set design, editing, everything. It made me decide that the next movie I watch has to be by David Fincher.

A centuries old male protagonist who takes a liking to an underage girl and spends most of his time among teenagers and children who have no real concept of who he is. His main antagonist is deeply misunderstood and is just trying to protect the girl and those she cares about.

Different story?
When they were younger, they were friends, adventured together, fought alongside each other. They had their disagreements, but loved each other like brothers. Then, one day, one learns he is betrayed. His brother in arms has been killing their own. Friends. Other brothers in arms. Children. They fight. A battle of life or death. One loses his hand and the other one leaves him for dead.
Did you guess Obi Wan and Anakin?
Third try.
They run away from home, get orphaned, or otherwise slip between the cracks. An old trickster adopts them and teaches them his ways. But the protagonists of this story have to contend with a violent antagonist who can think only of his own ambitions. They've made musicals out of this. You've got to get it this time.

Guess again. They're ALL Peter Pan.
In the book, Pan is ancient, but he's so against adult responsibility that he kills the Lost Boys who grow up. When Hook found out, Pan tried to kill him but only successfully cut off his hand. Hook is always depicted as capturing the Lost Boys in an attempt to draw out Pan, but like... How else do you save children who are living with a serial killer they worship?
Pan is ancient. Centuries, if not thousands of years old. He preys on children. Namely the lost and wayward kinds. The kids no one will miss when they never come back.
In contrast, Hook is an abuse victim going to extreme measures to save the other children. Because of his trauma, and perhaps the magic of Never Land, this has warped into a hyperfixation on killing Pan. But remember, none of the Lost Boys remember Hook, because Pan killed all of them. Pan maimed Hook. Cut off his hand. He continues to torment him about his impending death.
Pan is such a master of psychological reprogramming that the Lost Boys forget who they once were.
Now, Wendy Moira Angela Darling. The not-yet woman coming of age who doesn't want to conform to patriarchal standards, but once she runs away, she doesn't know what to do differently, and falls into the same role of mother and caretaker that her home society had proscribed for her. As @deliriumcrow put it, she wanted a revolution, but didn't know what to do differently once the revolution was over.
Wendy isn't at fault for what happens any more than any other runaway. Peter plays on her conditioning, her fears and hopes, her desire for something more. He promises to give her something more, but instead puts her on storytelling and medicine duties. She becomes an object of fascination to Hook as well, who attempts to recruit her to tell stories to his men.
Something to note about that...
Where Peter recruits Wendy for his amusement, it could be said that Hook's agenda was to help himself and the other pirates cope with their trauma. In either case, we have men asking a woman to do the emotional labor for them. And I will call Peter Pan a man, he's ancient. His refusal to mature is not a limitation placed on him, but rather a choice on his part to never grow up. He's manipulative, gaslighting, and abusive, and selects his targets carefully, the way a mature predator would.
But yeah. There ya go.

Reminiscing // Winter Blues // “Blue Christmas”
Max let out a deep sigh when Adam put a drink in front of him.
“I thought you liked Sex on the Beach – you know, the drink. Anything else, I can't attest to,” Adam said as he sat down next to Michael, who immediately wrapped an arm around him.
“Don't mind him, he's been like this all day.” Alicia waved it away and took a sip of her Martini while reaching for the bowl of peanuts that the bar had on every table.
“Sorry for having an emotion once in a while,” Max grumbled, glaring at his sister. She just shrugged.
“Anything specific, or are you just feeling the winter blues?” Wendy sat forward in her chair, leaning her arms on the table. One fingernail clinking against the beer bottle in her hand.
Max sighed again. “It's just depressing, you know. It's already Christmas again and...”
“And you still don't have a boyfriend,” Alicia said.
“Shut up.” Max pouted, glancing at Adam and Michael. “I mean yeah, but... mean. And it's not just that.”
“You're also bummed out that I'm the better witch.” Alicia grinned when everyone else rolled their eyes.
“You know, sometimes I forget that all of you are, like, weird,” Wendy said.
“You were kidnapped by a guy who sells human body parts to monsters,” Alicia reminded her. “But sure, we're the weird ones.”
“Hey, that was just something weird that happened to me. Otherwise I'm perfectly normal!”
“So am I,” Adam said cheerfully.
“Adam, you're over a thousand years old, I don't think you qualify-” Michael started, but Max cut him off.
“Screw the age, you have an archangel inside of you. Which...” Max eyed Michael. “Kinda jealous, 'cause he's hot. But it's also decidedly weird.”
Michael looked at him in confusion, as if the idea that someone other than Adam could be attracted to him was the weird thing here. Or maybe he was about to point out that the human form they saw was only an illusion, and didn't even come close to what he actually looked like. But Adam didn't give him time to say any of that.
“Look, I'm just some guy from Minnesota.”
“Yes, and I'm just some guy from Heaven,” Michael said.
Adam elbowed him. “You're not helping.”
“Oh, I know. I wasn't trying to.”
“Aw,” Wendy made. “Aren't they cute?”
“Disgustingly,” Alicia said with a straight face. “Now can we pick on my brother again?”
There was some shuffling under the table, and Adam was almost sure that Max and Alicia were kicking each other.
“Ouch,” Max said accusingly.
“You started it!”
“No, you did!”
“Kids, kids! I don't care who started it, but you're both gonna end it right now.” Adam grinned when they both glared at him. “Damn, I've really wanted to say that, just once.”
“Ugh. Old men are the worst,” Alicia complained, flicking a peanut in his direction.
“Now look here, young lady-”
“So do we like, not actually care what Max is sad about?” Wendy asked, raising an eyebrow at them all and not looking overly concerned.
Michael shrugged. Adam made a vague hand motion. There was some more shuffling as Alicia kicked Max under the table again (allegedly).
“Wow, you're just the best friends a guy could ask for.” Max huffed in consternation. “For the record, I'm sad because mom is dead and can't be here. There, I hope you're all happy now.”
“My mom's dead too, you're not special.” Adam slurped his own cocktail noisily.
“I never had a mother,” Michael said.
“Well I'm happy to report that I still have both my parents.” Wendy looked between them, then shrugged. “But my aunt Donna apparently hunts monsters and is friends with known serial killers and angels, if that helps.”
“I was eaten by a monster once because my dad killed its dad,” Adam added. Michael took his hand under the table.
“Oh my God, stop being so dramatic, people.” Alicia shook her head and grabbed a handful of peanuts. “The next person to come out with a sob story will be pelted with nuts.”
“I think you should all dance,” Michael suddenly said.
“Dance?” Max raised an eyebrow at him.
“Yes. Physical exercise – which includes dancing – releases chemicals in human brains that-”
“Wow, you've never been less sexy than at this very moment,” Max interrupted him.
“Excuse me, knowledge about the human body is very sexy.” Adam squeezed Michael's hand.
I don't actually mind him finding me 'not sexy', Michael said in their shared mind-space. His tone was soft, almost amused, as if he found it cute that Adam was getting offended on his behalf.
Max scoffed. “Okay, clearly, you two are made for each other.”
“That's not true. It was not my Father's plan for me to possess Adam. At least I don't think so.” Michael frowned.
“Babe, it wasn't meant that literally.”
“Well I'm taking it literally.” Michael huffed.
“Weirdoooos,” Wendy said cheerfully.
“Okay, you know what?” Adam put his free hand on the table. “We should dance. Because we can either stew in our own juices, or we can get out there and have fun. And who knows, Max, maybe your sweet dance moves will attract someone's attention.”
“For the last time, this is not about-” Max cut himself off when his eyes fell on something near the counter. No, not something, Adam realised, but someone. “But you know what? Sure. Let's do it.” He got up and made a beeline for the counter, presumably to ask the bartender to turn up the music a little.
Usually at this place, the dancing started later at night, but they didn't really care. A few people even joined them once they started, but the bar wasn't very full yet. Adam just ignored the few weird looks they got, and kept dancing with Michael. They were pretty good at that, but then they had almost a thousand years of practice and could literally hear each other's thoughts. So really, it would be unfair to compare their to anyone else's dancing.
Still, Adam thought smugly, they were the best. And if Max got to strike up a conversation with a handsome stranger because of how insanely good his friends were at dancing – well, that was just an added bonus.

my roommate and i were talking about this and i hyperfixated. I included child characters which had speaking rolls and were at least side characters. If I left one out I don’t care. Also i didn’t include teenagers/princesses/love interests. Just the kids

Pinocchio: disgusting puppet homunculi. I hate his weird knees. But I do like that he escapes a whale, it shows a will to live. I both respect and fear him. 4/10

The scenes of Aaron saying he still want Ben over Robert and chas saying Aaron not felt this way in ages but hurt the Aaron and Ben I love yous Ben saying Aaron changed everything using Robert line and Aaron agreeing like ever since Robert left all done is slap in the face of what Robert meant to Aaron like suddenly Ben means more and makes me feel sick
Ben means fuck all. To Aaron and the show. If Robert had gotten out last summer and returned to the village, losing his job would have been the least of Ben's worries. Or not - since he wouldn't be Aaron's plot bf anymore because Aaron would be living his best life with Rob again.
And Aaron jumping into this thing with Ben - saying I love you, saying he'll change... it's not going to last. Even if Meena doesn't kill him (which i'm still hoping she will) Danny's baby leave is about to kick in soon screentime wise, and he's not going to be filming again until January at the earliest. So that means no Aaron until at least somewhere in Feb. What are they going to do with Ben in the meantime? Jai's all but sacked him so he has no job, he has no friends (only wendy), his landlady died (andrea) and he wasn't even involved in that - he wasn't at her memorial or anything, and now he's going to discover footage of the local serial killer trying to drown someone... 👀 I don't see it going any other way than Ben ending up six feet under.
(And Danny and Steph are getting married next summer so he'll probably take time off for that too so I doubt we'll be seeing Aaron in a big storyline any time soon)

Dexter: New Blood likely represents the end of TV’s favorite serial killer: Dexter Morgan. Though the franchise may carry on with some sort of “Son of Dexter” setup, star and executive producer Michael C. Hall seems more than happy to hang up his Dark Passenger for good. 
Through eight seasons and one limited series, Dexter was the cream of the crop when it came to serial killing storytelling on TV. That’s probably because shows that inhabit the mind of serial killers are quite rare for understandable reasons. It’s dark in there. Dexter “got away” with it because his code required the killing of fellow killers. 
Still, TV is a big medium and the public’s appetite for bloody crime dramas is just as vast. As such, there are several other shows out there that might help itch that lingering Dexter scratch. Not all of them adopt the perspective of a serial killer but they all do delve as deep into the psyche of these monsters as they dare.
Here are some other shows that fans of Dexter might want to check out. 
Mindhunter
Watch on: Netflix (US and UK)
Mindhunter is a perfect complement to Dexter in that it’s kind of the anti-Dexter. While Dexter Morgan attributes his need to kill to an amorphous “Dark Passenger” rooting around in his head, the FBI professionals of Mindhunter decide to apply some actual science to serial killer psychology. Partially based on the 1995 true crime book of the same name, this Netflix series from David Fincher follows the founding of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit in the late 1970s. Lead characters Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), and Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) study real life mass killers to better understand how to stop more. Mindhunter appears to be done after only two seasons so check it out now and then immediately join the masses demanding more. – Alec Bojalad

Of all the shows currently gracing television, You is probably the closest to capturing that early season Dexter magic. This series, which first started on Lifetime before moving to Netflix, takes viewers directly into the twisted mind of Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). Joe is darkly romantically obsessed with…well, you. You might be a broke NYU student who hangs out at a local bookshop, a health guru in Los Angeles, or simply the nice girl next door. Just like Dexter Morgan, Joe invites viewers in to hear his internal monolog as he blazes a bloody path to love. – AB
Marcella
Watch on: Britbox, ITV Hub (UK); Netflix (UK & US)
UK crime dramas generally fit into one of two categories: cosy murder series (Endeavour, Strike, Jonathan Creek…) more about puzzle-solving than staring into the heart of darkness; and true-crime dramatisations aiming for depth and balance in their depictions of real-life tragedy (Little Boy Blue, The Moorside, White House Farm…). Marcella ain’t either one. It’s a balls-to-the-wall pulp crime thriller about crazy serial killers and elaborate revenge plots and fugue states. It stands to reason then, that Dexter fans might go for a slice of its crazy pie. Anna Friel leads the cast as Marcella Backland, a police detective investigating a series of killings that she may well have committed herself during one of her regular black outs. Things just get crazier from there, until the season three finale, by which time the show has evolved into something entirely different. Don’t go in expecting realism and you’ll likely enjoy the ride. – Louisa Mellor
Bates Motel

Bates Motel is a helpful reminder that pop culture has been fascinated by killers since well before Dexter Morgan. As you might have guessed by its name, this A&E series is a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Psycho. Set in the modern day, Bates Motel follows mother and son duo Norman (Freddie Highmore) and Norma (Vera Farmiga) Bates as they try to operate their titular motel…and occasionally kill their guests. Bates Motel is notable for getting better throughout its five-season run, culminating in what is essentially a modern remake of Psycho that is better than it has any right to be. – AB

Watch on: ITV Hub, Britbox (UK); AMC+ (US)
Dexter fans won’t get gore or kill room splatter from this gripping three-parter, but they will get a square look into an aberrant psychology. David Tennant plays real-life murderer Dennis Nilsen, a prolific killer arrested in London in 1983 and imprisoned for the murders of 12 men and boys. It’s brilliantly cast and led by a compelling performance from Tennant, who’s so convincing as the manipulative killer that it erases any trace of his much friendlier Doctor Who and Good Omens fan-favourite roles. Jason Watkins and Daniel Mays are also great respectively as Nilsen’s official biographer and the police detective leading the investigation. The drama’s as much an examination of the prejudiced system that failed to detect Nilsen’s crimes as it is about the actual murders. It achieves a fine balance that avoids sensationalism or prurience while confronting complex truths about how monstrous behaviour can hide behind the most harmless facades. – LM
Hannibal
Watch on: Hulu (US), and Prime Video (For purchase in the UK)
If seeing gallons upon gallons of blood was your favorite part of Dexter…maybe get a professional opinion on why exactly that is. After that’s taken care of,  plop down in front of the television to check out Hannibal, one of the goriest TV shows ever created. Running on NBC (yes, on network television) for three seasons, Hannibal borrows characters from Thomas Harris’s Hannibal Lecter novels and puts them to excellent use. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is a criminal profiler who tracks serial killers. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is a brilliant forensic psychiatrist, gourmet chef, and unbeknownst to all: a serial killer, himself. The relationship between these two men forms the backbone of these fandom-friendly series. And speaking of backbone, you’ll see plenty in the grim tableaus of human bodies Hannibal leaves behind. – AB
The Fall
Watch on: Netflix (UK); Prime Video (US)
Move over the Bay Harbor Butcher, it’s the turn of the Belfast Strangler. Like Dexter, The Fall explores how a serial killer can lead a double life in mainstream society, though unlike Dexter, murderer Paul Spector isn’t doling out vigilante justice, just satisfying his own perverse urges. The Tourist’s Jamie Dornan plays Spector, a married father of two and bereavement counsellor with a side line in stalking and strangling women. The true lead in this Northern Irish thriller is Gillian Anderson as Superintendent Stella Gibson, the detective brought in from England to hunt the killer. Her cat-and-mouse dynamic with Spector is the real engine of this three-season drama from writer Allan Cubitt. – LM
Manhunt
Watch on: Britbox, ITV Hub (UK); Acorn (US)
A more sober choice here for those with an interest in Dexter’s procedural side. Martin Clunes impresses as the lead in this true crime dramatisation of the hunt for British serial killer Levi Bellfield. Clunes played DCI Colin Sutton, the police detective who led the investigation into Bellfield following the 2004 murder of French student Amélie Delagrange. Sutton and his team’s dogged pursuit led to Bellfield’s arrest and eventual conviction for the attempted murder and murder of three women and one girl. Like many of the above, this isn’t a sensationalised take on serial killers, but a well-balanced dramatisation of a true crime investigation. Inspired by Sutton’s memoir, this isn’t Bellfield’s story, but that of the people who tracked him down and took him off the streets. A second series, subtitled ‘The Night Stalker’ was released in 2021, this time focusing on the pursuit of serial rapist Delroy Grant. – LM
The Serpent
Watch on: BBC iPlayer (UK), Netflix (UK & US)
If sociopathy is your TV itch, then this drama following the hunt for real life 1970s serial killer Charles Sobhraj may well scratch it. Based on a true story with real victims, The Serpent is obviously not as lurid or straightforwardly entertaining as Dexter – nor should it be – but the portrait it paints of a conscienceless narcissist is ultimately fascinating. This is a slow-burn series that rewards patience as it jumps around between countries and years, following Sobhraj as he robs and murders backpackers along South-Asia’s so-called ‘Hippie Trail’. Stylishly made with careful period detail, the story follows a Dutch diplomat’s lengthy investigation into Sobhraj’s crimes. A Prophet’s Tahar Rahim plays Sobhraj, with Doctor Who’s Jenna Coleman playing his conflicted partner. Written by Ripper Street’s Richard Warlow, the drama examines how a serial killer can go undetected for so long. – LM
Prodigal Son

Before Dexter Morgan welcomed his son into his dark confidence in New Blood, another recent TV series examined what it would be like to be the son of a prolific serial killer. Fox crime thriller Prodigal Son lasted for only two seasons but it made plenty of fans in that short time. The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne stars as Malcolm Bright, a former FBI profiler who now works for the NYPD and who just happens to have a father who killed 23 people. When a copycat killer emerges using Malcolm’s father Martin Whitly’s (Martin Sheen) M.O. Malcolm must get back in touch with his old man to seek advice – Silence of the Lambs style. – AB

Kermit and Friends: God Bless America

Kermit and Friends was all over the news cycle last week.
From Elisa Jordana being interviewed in US Weekly Magazine, to Wendy Williams addressing Elisa and Andy Dick on her show, to even Fox News covering the story.... everyone wanted to discuss the bombshell Elisa dropped last week on Kermit and Friends regarding Andy Dick's most recent arrest.
All of this began on Tuesday evening. Elisa's birthday was on Wednesday and she remained relatively quiet on her social media and in the Kermit and Friends Discord. So what happened at her birthday party?
Andy forgot about Elisa's birthday. No shocker there. Still, Elisa managed to get Andy on the phone and paid to have a car go pick him up. To Andy’s credit, he got in the car. Unfortunately, that’s the only credit he will receive from this point forward.
When Andy arrived, the first thing Elisa did was introduce him to her lovely mother. Instead of small talking and exchanging pleasantries, Andy immediately asked Elisa’s mom if she had any pills she could give him. Yikes!
Andy would only stay at the party for a short while. He showed more attention to Lisa Vanderpump than he did to Elisa, and then he would run off to go hang out with the guy who allegedly broke his ankle, Lucas.
So Andy pretty much ruined Elisa’s birthday. Does he care? Of course not. Andy wouldn’t talk to Elisa again until Saturday night when he called Elisa to ask her to pay for his hotel bill. After Elisa declined, Andy hung up on her and blocked Elisa on Instagram. This is really sad, pathetic behavior.
Elisa is claiming she’s officially done with Andy. The thing is, Elisa has one of the most forgiving souls on the planet. All Andy would have to do is have one nice conversation with Elisa and she’ll most likely then treat him (and his friends) to dinner. Who knows if Andy will even do that though. I personally hope not, and if he does... maybe Elisa will keep her foot down this time and refuse to allow Andy to keep hurting her like this.
I’ve been friends with Elisa since 2015. I could do a run down right now of the guys Elisa has dated since I’ve been blessed to know her, and I wouldn’t have anything good to say about any of them except maybe Gonzo, which honestly was just a fling.
Elisa deserves better than this. I desperately hope throughout our friendship that I set some kind of precedent to show Elisa how she should be treated by anyone who claims to love her. If I can get one thing out of my efforts these last 5 years, it’s that. It’s fine that Elisa doesn’t love me back... but it’s my main wish that she someday understands how I treat her is how the real man in her life should treat her. And hopefully that guy has many other amazing qualities to offer too, because Elisa deserves that as well if she’s going to give her heart to someone.
For all my bickering and griping about the men in Elisa’s life this last decade, we met a lovely young woman yesterday by the name of Mel who’s had it even worse than Elisa!
Mel is Jesse G-Rider’s ex-girlfriend. She was a part of the infamous trap house gang right before Elisa became emerged in it. Mel’s relationship with Jesse was extremely abusive, to say the least. There were cases of petty jealousy, beatings, drugs... you name it, it most likely happened.
Jesse called in highly upset with Elisa for having Mel on the show. Jesse claims he has a restraining order against Mel despite the fact that Mel moved all the way to Detroit, Michigan to escape Jesse.
Jesse then threatened Elisa with legal action, claiming it’s illegal to help a person contact another person who has a restraining order against them. Newsflash to Jesse: first of all, that’s not illegal, dumb dumb. Secondly, YOU called into the show. Elisa didn’t call you with Mel on the line. So even if in some ass backwards World where you could press charges against Elisa, they would be dropped immediately because JESSE initiated the contact by his own free will, and it’s all on recorded video.
Anyway, Mel was fantastic on the show. She had cute little elf ears, top notch internet and audio, a nice gaming chair... Elisa was impressed by all of this, as I was I. Mel looked like a professional streamer and she was a good storyteller that was also very vulnerable and honest. She’s everything Elisa looks for in a Kermit and Friends star. Hopefully Mel will become a regular in our community.
During Mel’s interview, Sharmin Smith went in head first about the horrors of abuse and what America needs to do to help women like Mel out. As a survivor of abuse, Sharmin has some strong feelings on the matter and she was not shy to share them. Even though her Presidential bid for 2020 was unsuccessful, I hear by declare Sharmin Smith President of Kermit and Friends. In my book, that’s why better than being President of the United States of America!
We love America on Kermit and Friends though. Yesterday was July the 4th and Elisa invited Tony Alexander on to discuss his career in the American military and what he’s heroically done to help fellow veterans who have had a rough time adjusting to normal life once they returned home from the war. Tony was a class act through and through, and it was great to see Kermit make a new friend like him on Independence Day.
Another US veteran joined the show, Kermit’s old pal Chris Christine. She said a lovely prayer and then randomly flip opened the Bible so that God could choose a special passage to share with all of Kermit’s beautiful friends. She landed on 1 Kings 6, which is about Solomon building a temple of the Lord, much like Elisa has built the Kermitarian Church!
Claire from New Jersey called at the beginning of the show to ask Elisa her thoughts on Wendy Williams’ segment about Elisa and Andy. Wendy wasn’t very kind - she made light of Andy’s addiction despite being an addict herself, she told a very distasteful joke about Bill Cosby getting hired before Andy ever would, she mispronounced Elisa’s name on purpose, and she claimed that Elisa was trying to use Andy for success. So funny how the ignorant morons who say stuff like that don’t realize it’s been Andy using Elisa this entire time... it’s honestly sexism. Wendy as a woman herself should know better, but I guess her IQ just isn’t at a place where she could ever grasp that.
Sigmond returned to Kermit and Friends this week. Elisa kindly invited Sigmond to her birthday party on Wednesday and by all accounts, he was a superb guest. He even bought Elisa a present! Yep, Sigmond Twayne's Mental Cookbook was his gift and Elisa seemed to love it. This led to Gonzo calling in to ask why the book is so cheap on Amazon. Sigmond, remembering that it was Gonzo who called him a serial killer last week, said Gonzo is a liar and that the book cost $37 on Amazon. Well, Gonzo was actually being truthful because at the time of this blog entry, the book is on sale for just $8.76 from it’s listed price of $37.00. Of course, Kermit and Friends isn’t Kermit and Friends without some spectacular musical performances. Boy, were we blessed with some good ones for the 4th of July. Elisa’s dad Craig returned to the show to beautifully perform a patriotic song from the 1700′s in which I sadly can’t find the title of. Sigmond’s partner Wappy performed an incredible original song and covered Pool Shark by Sublime. Elisa would also play one of Sugar’s awesome music videos for everyone to enjoy. Good stuff all around from Kermit’s unbelievably talented friends.
All in all, it was a very eventual Kermit and Friends, one absolutely fitting for Independence Day. The future seems more uncertain than ever, but as long as Kermit has all her friends to enjoy, everything will be A-okay. Can’t wait to see what next week’s show will bring :)
